Along the Walls, Above the Earth

As broken towers fall along

The edge of fading, starlit grass,

And shards of aging sun sink deep

Into the graying, clouded mass

Of skies wrung out and held aloft

By lines that relay memory

To forethought, where the ghosts of loss

Slip silently between the leaves

Of risen trees that sway and swoon

‘pon winds that carry autumn’s grace

There’s little else to grasp onto

But long lamented love’s embrace.
